Budding Engineers - Afterschool STEM Program

Budding Engineers is a hands-on STEM learning opportunity for youth between 7 and 14 years old.

In this program, kids explore the engineering design process while building hands-on STEM projects in a fun and engaging environment. Each class introduces a new science concept and kids interact with various science activities, demos, simulations and games while building their take-home projects. The projects are designed to encourage tinkering and allow for hours of fun and engineering well after the workshop is over.

Some of the projects that kids will build during this program include:

A REAL ROCKET to compete with NASA!
A HYDRAULIC CRANE to do some heavy lifting!
A WINDMILL to harness green wind energy and power LEDs!
A CATAPULT to fling things up and over!
An ELECTRIC CAR to take on the big car makers!

The projects that kids do in our STEM classes help build their capabilities in teamwork, problem solving and science concepts.

At EngKidz, we believe in delivering STEM education to all kids and youth that want to learn more. It is our mission to nurture creativity and a maker spirit in all children.

Great robotics workshop for kids. Introduction to the engineering and coding for a working root was provided. Kids built and coded their own robot over 5 weeks. Both the instructors were professional and patient. Kids were encouraged to think analytically and apply logic in developing code. Instructors were warm and welcoming towards the children and were able to break down engineering principles into simpler analogies for the kids. EngKidz has been a great experience for my 7-yr old son Aidan. He's a bright kid that usually has a hard time focusing on learning but their hands-on experimental approach has kept him engaged. We've gone through the Budding Engineers, Code, and Robo Engineering classes and he's genuinely excited to log in, learn, and build with his teachers and class. As a STEM parent, this has been a great activity to get my kid exposed to engineering principles. The classes themselves have been fun activities to work through together, but aren't completely hands off. While the teacher's do make it as easy as possible with the kits and materials sent to your house, it does require a bit of Zoom and tech savvy to prepare some of the setup and software if your child isn't tech proficient yet. That being said, the online zoom courses have been much easier to attend and much less stressful educational activities during the pandemic. If EngKidz ends up offering follow up curriculum, after school project classes, summer camps down the line I'd happily be signing up again!Kevin D.

Where do we offer programs?

We currently offer STEM after school programs in several Surrey elementary schools, and at leisure/recreation centers in Surrey. More locations and programs are in the works.

What is different about EngKidz Programs?

EngKidz STEM workshops and projects are carefully designed by engineers to connect science and technology with real world engineering. Each hands-on take-home project is unique, but can be easily modified using everyday items, thus providing a creative playground to encourage innovation.
EngKidz program are closely aligned with BC Science and ADST (Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies) curriculum.
